Pictures and Descriptions. (Scroll Down)

I want to take this trip, what details should I know? Details and Trip Planning

Boston

Something different from our usual. Louise has always wanted to go whale watching and neither of us had ever been to Boston, so it seemed like a easy match.

As like most of our trips we packed a bunch into a few days. Whale watching, the Freedom Trail, the USS Constitution, the Bunker Hill Monument, the North End, the Aquarium, and toped it off with the Boston Fine Art Museum. And of course there was some great food and a great little bar called Parla.

Whale Watching

I'd have more pictures, but whales don't really lend themselves to be photographed. I'll include the Google Maps image that I thought was funny and a video that captures the boat trip far better.

Freedom Trail

If you're going to Boston for site seeing, then you're probably going to want to see some history. Boston knows this and they have the "Freedom Trail" to help you see the sites. Due to time constraints we started the trail more at the halfway point of Faneuil Hall and headed North. Some great sites and just as important some incredible dining. A special mention to "Joe's" for incredible food, "Pellino" for food and atmosphere, and "Parla" for drinks. The Old North Church was an interesting stop, but the USS Constitution was great. Skip the Bunker Hill memorial unless you really just need the exercise.

1. Faneuil Hall
2. The trail is literally red bricks in the sidewalk
3. The North End
4. Old North Church
5-6. The USS Constitution

Boston Aquarium

I'm probably just jaded, but I expected more. It's a fine aquarium, but Baltimore is better. Smaller than I expected, and it has a really poor traffic flow.

Boston Museum of Fine Art

Wonderful surprise. This is a great museum. It has the standards like Egyptian and European sections, but because it's Boston the American revolution section is particularly strong. I particularly love the set pieces where they not only had art, but furniture and even complete rooms called "Period Rooms". Of special note they even had a room of antique instruments that I could have spent an hour in alone. Heck, they even had a modern art piece I liked.

1. Jaffrey House Period Room
2. Lid of the sarcophagus of General Kheperra
3. Musical Instruments
4. Endlessly Repeating by Josiah McElheny
5. Cleopatra statue

Parla

Parla Craft Cocktail Bar Parla Boston

These guys REALLY know how to make a cocktail. We loved the drinks, the atmosphere, and bartenders were great. Can't recommend this place enough.
