Crowders Mt State Park, NC   May 2022

About

And on the tour of State Parks of NC we now arrive at Crowders Mountain State Park. About 30 min west of Charlotte NC, this park has a 4.5 mile and 800' ft elevation gain round trip hike to the top of Mt. A small scramble section at the top adds a bit of spice to the hike but the real stand out in this trip is the town of Belmont NC. An incredibly cute town that is wonderfully walkable and just a few minutes' drive from the hotel.

Pinnacle Trail Hike

4.5 Miles and 800 ft of elevation Rd trip

A pleasant hike in the woods with enough elevation gain to give you a fine workout, this hike while nice is a bit boring. It's the classic NC hike in the woods and other than the views from the top there is not a lot to look at. A shame as the trail is well maintained and the very small scramble section at the top does add a bit of variation but this is no Grandfather's Mt trail. And the scramble is more of a 7' section where you have to climb a very short way. Pleasant and fun it's a nice outing for the day.

The Town of Belmont NC

The unexpected star of the trip. Who would have thought that the small and not well known town of Belmont would be so charming? Start off with some easy parking options and a town that is easily walkable with 5-6 good restaurants and bars and you have a recipe for success. The food an atmosphere at Nellie's Southern Kitchen is equal to the hype, and the Jailhouse Whiskey Bar is a great place for drinks. A short drive away is the Veronet Winery which has a great look, comfortable seats, and an incredible meat and cheese plate. I'm unsure of the wine as I got side tracked on the Mimosa sampler, but that just means anyone can find something they like.
